Townsville miniguide
Townsville (165,000 inhabitants in 2008) located on the northeast coast of Australia - in the state of Queensland.It was founded in 1864 - and is primarily known as the city with 320 days of sunshine a year.
In the middle is the 290 meter high Castle Hill, which offers a fantastic view over the city and suburbs - and you can also look to the archipelago of Magnetic Island, which is the area's most famous national park.Otherwise, the cityscape is dominated by the 2-km-long The Strand, with its very popular and beautiful beach - which also is located in the center. Here is the example also a large play area for children. There is otherwise a number of inviting beaches in and around Townsville.
Townsville is also a paradise for divers, both professional and amateur - and there are daily trips to the world's largest coral reef, the Great Barrier Reef, situated off the coast of Queensland. Great Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage list - and so does the rainforest areas of Townsville, where there are several national parks.
Airport Townsville Airport is located 12 miles west of downtown.
