Innsbruck is the largest city and capital of the state of Tyrol. The population was measured at 118 000 in 2007 and Innsbruck is located 575 meters above sea level.The city is located in western Austria , in the middle of the protruding belt bordering Germany to the north and Italy to the south.The name comes from the city is close to the River Inn.
Tourists flock to Innsbruck in both summer and winter, although the city is most famous for being a winter resort. Winter Olympics were held here in 1964 and 1976, and there are opportunities for different winter activities. The city offers a historic district and old buildings, including Fürstenburg from the 1400s. The building is more commonly known as Gold Dachl because of the famous balcony of the Golden Roof.
Airport Innsbruck Airport is located 5 km west of the city and is the largest airport in the Tyrol. In winter air traffic up and in 2008 registered Innsbruck Airport 969 474 travelers.
