Minsk is the capital of Belarus and is centrally located in the northwestern part of the country.Rivers Svislach and Niamiha runs through the city is the cultural center. Minsk is the largest city in Belarus and the population was over 1.7 million in 2008. The capital was first mentioned in sources from 1067 and was a major trading center in the Middle Ages.
Under 2 World War II, large parts of Minsk destroyed. Still, not all historic buildings lost, including several churches like the Cathedral of the Holy Spirits and the Cathedral of Saint Virgin Mary from the 1700s. To learn about the history, there are many good museums to visit. Old Belarusian History Museum deals with the country's ancient history, while the Belarusian Great Patriotic War Museum is dedicated to its role in the 2 World War II. Minsk is a green city with a lot of green spaces which one of the most famous is Gorkyparken.
Minsk International Airport offers flights to many parts of Europe and is about. 40 km outside the city.
