The city of Namur is the capital of the province of Namur and in 2008, the population of over 106,000 within the city limits.The city is located in the southeastern part of Belgium , near the place where the river meets the Sabre great river Meuse.Namur is located approximately 65 km southeast of the capital Brussels .
Like many other Belgian towns, stretching Namur history way back in time. Although the area has been inhabited since before Roman times, the city Namur first created on the 900's. The city grew around a fortress or citadel that stands today and is Namur's most famous attraction. Historic buildings are a big part of the cityscape, and one of the most visited attractions is the Archaeological Museum. This museum is housed in a remarkable, old meat hall from the 1500s.
Namur Suarlée Airport is situated in Namur, but does not offer scheduled flights. For passengers wishing to fly to Namur, it is possible to land at Charleroi Airport Charleroi / Gosselies Airport situated about 30 km west of Namur.
