Ostrava belongs to the region Moravia and is the east of the Czech Republic .The city is close to the same nløpet of the rivers Oder and Ostravice.It is only slightly more than 30 km to the Polish border in the east and almost 60 km to the Slovenian border in the south. Ostrava is the third largest city in the country with a population of almost 340 000 (2009).
Ostrava has long been known for coal mines and just north of downtown is the Museum of Mining. For more information about the city's history can visit the Ostrava Museum located in the oldest building in town with an astronomical clock from the 1500s. The Sea Aquarium, one can see the activities that feed the largest piranhas, and the zoo Ostrava City Zoo is the animal tiger, camel, elephant and chimpanzee.Fairy Tale Ghost Cellar is a children's attraction with 11 different rooms in the 150-year-old cellars.
Leos Janacek Ostrava Airport is an international airport located about 20 km outside the city center.
