Svendborg is, with its 27,179 inhabitants (2009), the second largest city on the island of Fyn. The city, which belongs to Region of Southern Denmark, is over 750 years old - and much of the old city architecture, with small picturesque squares, narrow streets, listed buildings, is preserved.

Svendborg history is closely linked to the maritime. It may be noted that Denmark's largest trading - the shipping group AP Moeller-Maersk A / S - have their origins here.

Among the city's most popular attractions is Anne Hvide Farm from 1560 (now part of the Svendborg Museum), Naturama (Svendborg Zoological Museum) and Art Gallery building. Also Valdemar's Castle with the beautiful Alexander Park be mentioned, even though it lies just south of the Svendborg.
