Newcastle uopn-Tyne is a city in the county of Tyne and Wear and the city is located northeast of England. County named after the rivers Tyne and Wear which flows in the area and the city was named 1000's, when the Normans built a castle here. The River Tyne flows through Newcastle and the city is famous for the coal industry which started in the 1200s. The population of Newcastle is located at more than 270 000 (2008).
Newcastle is an old city that is a mixture of old and modern, while the signs of being an industrial city. At the Discovery Museum can learn more about its history and its role in, among other things, coal and cotton industries. In the old town are still remains of city walls from the 1200s and several medieval churches. Blue Reef Aquarium is an aquarium with sharks and tropical fish that should be visited, and the River Escapes arranges boat trips along the River Tyne.
Newcastle Airport is located about 10 km outside the city center and is the 13th busiest airport in the UK.
