Pärnu is a city located in Estonia's south-western part bordering the Gulf of Riga.The bay is one of the coves belonging to the Baltic Sea or the Baltic Sea as the sea is also called. The city lies on the river Pärnu, near the place where the river flows into the Gulf of Riga. Pärnu was founded in the 1200s and was an important port, commercial and strategic point in many years. This is the third largest financial center in the country and its population is currently at almost 45 000 (2008).

Pärnu considered Estonia's summer capital because of its excellent location. The city is a modern resort that offers beautiful beaches, hotels and restaurants. In summer there are opportunities for various water sports, fishing and hiking, while winter is reserved for skiing and dog sleds. In the center there are many old buildings and monuments, a variety of museums and a zoo.

The town's nearest airport is Pärnu Airport which is located approx. 4 km outside the city center. There are mainly flights within the country.
