Beauvais miniguide
Beauvais (55 230 inhabitants in 2007) located in the northern French region of Picardie - and is the administrative center in the department of Oise. The distance to the south of Paris is 66 kilometers.Two rivers - Therain and Avalon - flow together in Beauvais.
The city's most famous attraction is the monumental Cathedral Cathédrale de Saint-Pierre, which was begun in 1225 The plan was to build the world's tallest Gothic church. The project, however, was too bold, and in 1284 collapsed the roof. Middle ship was never rebuilt - but still gives the cathedral a strong impression.
There are also several surviving buildings from 1100 - and 1200-century in the narrow streets around the cathedral - and the Place de l'Hotel de Ville (City Hall).
In recent years, Bauvais invested heavily in a "green plan" (plan host) to get to a more sustainable transportation in the city. Among other will be built as 20 miles of bike paths.
