Toulon is situated in the south of France - on the Mediterranean coast - and is part of the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur.Toulon is also the main town in the department of Var, and has 167,400 inhabitants (2005). Projected to the suburbs, the population is increasing to 564,800 inhabitants.
Toulon is a very old city, but its most famous story is related to Napoleon. Here he defeated because the English in 1793 - and was then appointed to the General.
