Montpellier is located in southern France , just 10 km from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and is main town in the French Ministry of Hérault and the region of Languedoc-Roussillon.Montpellier is the 8th largest city in France with 244,500 inhabitants (2004), and is located between two rivers - Lez and Masson.
Montpellier was founded in 985 BC Kr. And today is characterized by both historic buildings from medieval and modern architecture.
The historic center - "Ecusson" - with its charming narrow streets and small shops are worth a visit, and Cathedral Saint Pierre from the 1500s.
"Place de la Comédie" is the city's largest and most central place, and there is also "Opéra Comédie" - the city's opera house from 1888.
A major tourist attraction in Montpellier, the Musée Fabre - one of the largest art museums in the country - with 800 exhibited paintings made by European artists in the period from the 1500s to the 1700s. The museum also has an exhibition of sculptures and ceramics.
The city has its own airport - Aéroport Montpellier Méditerranée - which is 7 km southeast of downtown
