Vannes miniguide
Vannes is a city in northwestern France , in Brittany.Vannes is located 75 miles north of St. Nazaire at the Golfe de Morbihan. The city is the capital of the Ministry of Morbihan. There are approx. 54,000 inhabitants in the port city.
Vannes was founded more than 2000 years ago by the Romans. Among the city's sights include the Cathedral St.Pierre. Vannes has a well-preserved inner city that is surrounded by walls from the Middle Ages. Herr is a large tower, and a former castle, the Chateau de l'Hermine, which was converted into palace in the 1700s. Chateau Gaillard was built in the 1500s and is a good example of medieval architecture, art. It keeps today the city's archaeological museum. The city also has an art museum, musée de la Cohue. It is reserved for contemporary art and has both permanent and other exhibitions.
The nearest airport is the international airport in Nantes and Lorient - Lann Bihoue, respectively, ca. 115 and 53 km from Vannes.
