Bochum miniguide
Bochum is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia - in the western part of Germany .The city has 380,500 inhabitants (2008), and is the Ruhr area, between the cities of Essen and Dortmund .
Bochum was founded in the 1300s, and currently has several historical attractions. On the north bank of the river Ruhr are two medieval castle and the town's oldest church - "Prospectuses Church of St. Peter und Paul" - has many visitors.The church as it stands today was built in 1547 - on the ruins of a much older church that burned down in 1517.
Bochum is known for its Mining Museum, located north of downtown. The mining museum is also a popular tourist attraction - with 400,000 visitors annually.
Other city sights include City Hall from 1931, the railway museum (in the district Dahlhausen), Schauspielhaus Bochum - one of the largest and most prestigious theaters in Germany and the Planetarium.
Art Museum "Bochum Museum" is also worth a visit - with its magnificent collection of German art since 1945, and international art from the 1900s.
The nearest airport is Dortmund Airport , located 30 km east of Bochum.
