Cottbus miniguide
Cottbus is located in the eastern part of Germany , and belongs to the state of Brandenburg.The city has 102,000 inhabitants and is situated by the river Spree - approx. 20 km from the border with Poland .
Cottbus has several historical sights, and a varied cultural life with numerous museums and art galleries. Cottbus is also an excellent exhibition and Convention city.
The main tourist attraction is Altmarkt - Market Square in Old Town - where the buildings in the area are mostly from 1700 - and 1800's. There are nice cafes and restaurants, as well as small specialty shops.Pharmacy Museum in Old Town, many visitors, and the reconstructed market well is an attraction.
Other sights in Cottbus is: Schloss (castle) Branitz from the 1700s with the Castle Park, "Art Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus" - art collection of paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs, the town's local history museum, the monastery church from the 1300s, Tower "Spremberger Turm "from the 1200s and the theater" Staatstheater Cottbus "from 1908.
The town has other great parks and recreation areas, cinema, planetarium and Zoo.
Nearest international airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport , located 107 km west of Cottbus.
Dresden Airport , located 128 km south of Cottbus, is also an option.
