Detmold miniguide
Detmold is situated northeast of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and has about 80,000 inhabitants (2010).Detmold has many historic buildings and monuments, and is known for its rich cultural life - something that draws many tourists to the city.
The city's main tourist attraction is located 7 miles from the center of Teutoburg. Here it is 57 meters high Hermann Monument, to commemorate the battle of this place - when the Germans defeated the Romans in 9 ADNOK Teutoburg also has great hiking trails, and close to the monument's "Vogel Park Heiligenstadt-Partenkirchen" - a great bird park with countless fulglearter - including parrots. Other tourist attractions in Detmold are: Schloss Detmold, the Royal Palace in the center - where parts of the building is from 1366, Westfälische Air Museum - Germany's largest open air museum with more than 100 reconstructed buildings, gardens and fields, "National Theater Detmold" - the city's theater, which was first listed i1825 and Martin Luther's Church from 1898 - the neo-Gothic style.
Detmold has other great shopping, vibrant nightlife and several annual festivals and cultural events.
Nearest international airport is Paderborn Lippstadt Airport , located 54 km south of Detmold.
