Koblenz miniguide
Koblenz is situated in the western part of Germany - at the confluence of the rivers Moselle and Rhine River - and is part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.Koblenz has 106,300 inhabitants (2008), and is one of the country's oldest cities.
Koblenz is an important commercial and transportation hub, and also has its own university. Parts of the city listed on UNESCO's World Heritage list, including "Altstadt" - the old town - with its historic buildings.Many tourists also visit the ancient city's charming restaurants, pubs and shops. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the old city is the Basilica of St. Castor, who is the oldest church in town, with roots back to 800's. The current building is from the 1100s. Also Florin's Church from 1100's and Our Lady's Church from the 1200s is worth a visit.
The fortress "Ehrenbreitstein" from the Middle Ages is NOK an attraction. This is the country's largest military fortress, situated on a hill 118 meters above the river Rhine. You can also visit the "Landesmuseum Koblenz" - a historical museum.
Nearest major airport is Cologne / Bonn Airport , located 106 km north of Koblenz.
