Kithira miniguide
Kithira (Kythira, Kythera) is an island of 284 km2, located just south of the peninsula of the Peloponnese in Greece .It belongs to the Ionian islands and has a total population of approx. 3500. There are a number of small, picturesque villages on Kithira - most with a modest population (between 100 and 200).
"Capital" is called Khor (also called Kithira city), is at the south and has approx. 270 inhabitants. It has not, however, a separate port, then ferry traffic to the mainland (Peloponnese and Piraeus) goes from Diakoufti, located on the island's northeast coast.
Tourism is very important for the island's economy, and it is to holiday in quiet, scenic surroundings, tourists mainly come here. The villages and beautiful beaches (some of them reachable only by sea) is Kithira main attractions. The island also has a number of cultural sights, and here the Byzantine and the Archaeological Museum in Khor mentioned.
