The Greek island Kos is located on the Aegean Sea off the southwest coast of Turkey , and belongs to the Dodecanese.The island has about 31,000 inhabitants, and is elongated with fertile plains and cut the rich coast. The highest point is Dikeois located 846 meters above sea level
The main town on the island called simply Kos town, located on the northwest coast. The town has 17,900 inhabitants, and port with ferry connections to several other Greek islands. Otherwise, Kos town a tourist and cultural center with many hotels, bustling nightlife and sandy beaches - where some of them have black volcanic sand. The town has several historical sites - including Platia tou Platanou - "Hippocrates Platantre". It was under this tree that the philosopher and "Medicine father" taught his students in ancient times. Even Hippocrates Museum can be visited in the city. Another attraction in town is John Nitter Knight's Castle from 1400's - and is a great viewpoint.
Other famous seaside towns and tourist resorts on the island are: Kefalos, Kamari, Seagulls, Kardamena and Lambi.
The nearest airport is the Kos International Airport - Hippocrates , which is 27 km outside of Kos Town.
