Lefkada miniguide
Lefkada (Lefkas, seaside, Leukos) is an island with an area of 293 km2, which belongs to the Ionian Islands. It is located on the west coast of Greece - very close to the mainland, which it is linked both with the help of a pontoon and a large dam.The island has a total of 23,000 inhabitants, and almost half of whom live in the capital, Lefkada Town, located in the far north.
Lefkada town is best known for its long pedestrian street, where most shops are - and for its beautiful marina. From the city it is busforbindelse to Athens (distance: 370 km). There is also a number of smaller towns and resorts along the coast and up in the mountains (where the highest point - Stavrotas - located at 1158 m). The most popular resort town - Nidri (Nydri) - is located on the island's east coast. From there you can see across to the tiny neighboring island Skorpio, where Aristotle Onassis and Jacqueline Kennedy had his vacation paradise.
Lafkádas main attractions are related to leisure activities - in particular beach and windsurfing. Vassili-bay right at the south is regarded as one of the best surfing spots in Europe. There are also several scenic churches, monasteries and museums on the island. Most visited the archeological museum in the center of Lefkada town.
Nearest Airport - Preveza Lefkos Airport - located on the mainland, approx. 20 minute drive from Lefkada Town.
