Rhodes miniguide
The Greek island Rhodes is the easternmost and one of the largest islands in the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea. It is located 18 km west of the coast of Turkey and has approximately 130,000 inhabitants (2007).Commercial revenues come primarily from tourists arriving on the island in summer season.

The capital city - Rhodes city - is situated north of the island and has approx. 80,000 inhabitants. The city is known for the "Colossus of Rhodes" from the year 550 BCKr. - One of the world's seven wonders, which were previously occupied by Mandraki harbor. Colossus was a huge statue of the Greek sun god Helios. Today there are two deer statues in this square. Medieval Old Town is a tourist attraction in Rhodes Town, and this is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is also an archaeological museum here.
Otherwise, beach, sun and swimming the biggest attraction in the main town, shopping and nightlife.
Other famous villages and resort towns on the island are: Faliraki, Lindos, Kremasti, Pefka, Paradisi, Trianta, Afandou and Archangelos.
The main airport of Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras" is located 14 km southwest of Rhodes Town.
