Santorini (or Thera / Thira) is a beautiful Greek volcanic island in the Aegean Sea, with about 13,000 inhabitants. Santorini belongs to the Sovereign of Cyclades, and lies north of Crete .The main industry on the island is tourism, and there are approximately 500,000 visitors annually.
Previously, the island is a volcano, but today only the outer ring again. The crater in the middle was filled with water after the volcano's explosive eruptions in the 1600s BCNOK
Santorini's capital Fira units, and has ca.1600 inhabitants. The city is situated dramatically on the edge of the 260 meter high cliffs, with panoramic sea views and the open lagoon. In summer, the city is packed with tourists. Fira is a bustling port with ferry connections to many other cities and islands in Greece .
The city's tourist attractions are first and foremost the views and beaches (which are of pumice and lava stone), but Fira also has an archaeological museum and a Folklore Museum is well worth a visit. It is also popular for tourists to take a boat ride to the active volcano of Nea Kameni.

The island has its own airport - Santorini Airport , located 5 km southeast of the capital Fira.
