Gyor is located in the northwestern part of Hungary , and is the main town in the district of Gyor-Moson-Sopron.The city has 130,000 inhabitants (2009), and is often called the "river city" - because it is situated where the rivers Raba, Rabac and the Danube meet. Gyor is located near the border with the countries Slovakia and Austria .
The city is best known for its beautiful baroque buildings, and has several historic churches. Gyor has a rich cultural life with theater, museums and art exhibitions as well as several annual festivals.
The most known touristic attractions in Gyor are: the Basilica of the 1200s, art museum with several branches in town, City Hall - a beautiful building with a beautiful garden from the 1500s, Carmelite Church from the 1700s, the historical museum Xantus Museum and Museum - w . a.greske and Roman artefacts, sculptures, paintings and Chinese porcelain.
