Borgarnes is a city on a peninsula on Borgarfjörður the Iceland , 60 kilometers north of the capital Reykjavik .Borgarnes is the center of Borgarbyggd municipality. In 2009 there were approx. 2,000 residents here. Borgarnes has road links to the rest of the country through Iceland's second largest bridge: Borgarfjardarbru.
Borgarnes was first mentioned in Egil Skallagrimsson saga, but the city was then known under the name Digranes. Egil's father, Skallagrim Kvedlulfssons, burial mound located in Borgarnes center. Egil himself was a former owner of farm Borg. At the church site Borg a Myru outside the center stands a sculpture of Egil Skallagrimsson. It is made by sculptor Asmundur Sveinsson. Borgarnes offers more artistic, natural and historical sights as well as its scenic surroundings. The city art museum, natural and cultural history. Borgarnes also has a golf club.
