Ferrara is the capital of the province Ferrara with a population of more than 130 000 (2008). The city is situated on the banks of the River Po di Volano which is a tributary of the Po and a location north of the coastal region of Emilia-Romagna which lies in northeastern Italy .From Ferrara is about. 50 km to the Adriatic coast in the east, and it is a little over 50 km to Bologna in the north.

Ferrara was an important city during the Italian Renaissance and many of the buildings are marked by this time. Castello Estense is one of the most famous sights of the city and became its four towers erected in 1300 - and 1500's, while the walls that surround Ferrara was built in the 1400s and is one of the best preserved walls in Italy. The archaeological museum is in Palazzo Schifanoia from the 15th century, and the old town is a UNESCO World Heritage list.

Bologna Airport is approx. 50 km south of Ferrara and is also called Guglielmo Marconi Airport.
