Lamezia Terme is a city in Calabria in southern Italy .The city lies on the coast, and is the largest city in the area that stretches from Salerno to Reggio Calabria .Tøger linking the city of Naples and Reggio.
Calabria region is known for its spicy food. The city of Lamezia Terme was founded in 1968 and comprises the former municipalities Nicastro, Sambiase and Sant'Eufemia Lamezia. Nicastro's history goes back to 900's when Calabria was part of the Byzantine Empire. Here there was a large Benedictine monastery, St. Eufemia, which was established in 1062. Sambiase had famous Roman baths, and was a tourist destination. Visitors can see the ruins of a castle from the 1000's, visit a økomuseum in Sambiase or the ruins of the monastery of Santa Maria di Corazzo from 1060 From here you can go to one of Dino island's caves, Blu Grotto.
Lamezia Terme International Airport is located approx. ten kilometers outside of Lamezia Terme.
