Trapani is located on the west coast of Sicily , and is the capital of the province of the same name.Approx. 67,000 inhabitants live in the city located at the Monte San Giuliano. TPS has a good harbor, and exports salt and wine.
The city in Roman times was called Drepanum, has many historic buildings. Trapani was an important naval base for the Carthaginians during the First Punic War. In a naval battle in 249 BCKr. beat the Carthaginians the Romans under Publius Claudius pulcher. Trapani is famous for its Easter parade, when the city's religious sculptures from the 17th and 18 century, taken through the streets on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. One of the attractions is the beautiful Basilica of the Madonna di Trapani, built in the 1300s. The basilica has a sculpture by Nino Pisano. Here is the Triton Fountain, Cathedral and many fine buildings.
