Trieste is located at the head of the Adriatic. Trieste is the capital of the region Friuli-Venice Giulia, bordering Slovenia .Here live 211,000 inhabitants. The port is transit traffic to and from Central Europe.
The city belonged to Austria , and not unexpectedly, the city has several examples of Austrian architecture.Trieste has a Roman Amphitheatre and Roman Museum. There are several museums of archeology and art. At San Giustohøyden located castle that was begun in 1509, and the Cathedral which dates back to 500's. Trieste is famous for its local liqueur Grappa. One of the largest caves, Grotta Gigante, located 15 kilometers outside Trieste center. Trieste is also a museum near the cave of the special geographical phenomena. Visitors can also go on trips around Trieste and sample local cheeses, salami and wine.
The international airport of Ronchi dei Legionari is located 33 kilometers north of the center of the city of Trieste.
