Riga is Latvia's capital, is situated on the river Daug ava 16 kilometers south of the river's outlet in the Gulf of Riga.The river divides the city into three parts: the old city center on the north shore, and Pardaugava on the south bank. 765,000 live in the city which is the largest Baltic city. Riga, Lithuania's main port that is also one of the Baltic Sea's largest.
Old Town and the center has several buildings in Art Nouveau style, and is considered to be Europe's best collection of Art Nouveau buildings. Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage List, and has several medieval buildings, the most famous is the "Three Brothers". In the old town stands the Dome Cathedral, which began in 1211. It has one of the world's largest organ. This is also the Russian Orthodox St. Peter's church with a 137 meter high spire. The River castle fortress, which was begun in 1328 and rebuilt in the 1500s.
