Cozumel miniguide
Cozumel is an island in the Caribbean Sea, off the east coast of Yucatan. Fifty thousand inhabitants live on the island, which belongs to the state of Quintana Roo. It is approx. 47 kilometers long and 14 kilometers wide. 72,000 live in Cozumel. There are ferries to Calica, south of Playa del Carmen.
Cozumel is one of Mexico's biggest tourist attractions and is a popular cruise destination. The capital city of Cozumel is San Miguel has a 271 meter long pier that can accommodate two cruise ships simultaneously. It is beautiful and safe beaches that are well suited for diving and snorkeling. Several dive operators can take visitors out on the reefs off Cozumel's coast. Visitors can also rent a scooter, go fishing or take a ride on a mini-submarine. From Cozumel there are multiple trips to Mayan archaeological findings as San Gervasio, north of the Carretera Transversal, or the Mayan sites near El Cedral village.
Airport Cozumel airport is located three miles outside the city center.
