Hermosillo is the capital of the State of Sonora, located in northwestern Mexico .Hermosillo has 850,000 inhabitants (2000).
Hermosillo is a popular winter tourist destination, which was founded in the 1700s as a Spanish military base. From the radio tower Cerro de la Campana is a nice view of Hermosillo and the surrounding area. Other attractions include the Museo de Sonora, in an old stone building fra1897.Here visitors can see the old prison cells. Hector Espino Stadium, home of Mexico's best baseball player Hermosillo Naranjeros located in Hermosillo. An ancient citadel dominates the city center. An hour south of the city are beautiful beaches in Bahia Kino, Hermosillo and the surrounding area is a mix of desert and mountains that have good conditions for hiking and mountain biking. Here visitors can take in animals that lizard, deer and coyote.
The nearest airport is General Ignacio Pesqueira Garcia Airport, 9 miles outside Hermosillo.
