La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur, the Gulf of California in Mexico .Metropolitan area of La Paz has 200,000 inhabitants (2005). The area is Mexico's fourth largest independent area. La Paz is a fishing port and an important tourist destination. Here there is a ferry to Mazatlan and Los Mochis on the Mexican mainland.
La Paz has several beautiful beaches and islands off the coast. Playa El Tesoro is the place for quiet, non-motor water sports in a protected cove with shallow lakes. Islands in the Sea of Cortez can be reached by boat. Here is an excellent marine life with beautiful views. In La Paz there is an active nightlife with night clubs where the water's edge. In coffee shops, visitors can drink coffee until late at night. La Paz also offers whale watching and camping opportunities.
The nearest airport is Aeropuerto Internacional General Manuel Márquez de Leo, just outside La Paz city.
