Temuco is a Chilean city located in the southern part of the country, about 270 km south of Concepcion. The city is located between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes to the east, and the river Cautín runs through the center. Temuco belong Araucanía region named after the Mapuche Indian language, and the city is its cultural center. Temuco, founded in 1881 and today is home to approximately 240 000 inhabitants here (2008). Metropolitan area has a population of over 260 000 (2002), which makes the area south of Chile’s second largest.

Temuco is the right place to visit if you want to learn more about the Mapuche Indians who is Chile’s indigenous population.Here is the market Mercado Municipal where you can buy traditional Mapuche goods. In the famous Alemania Avenue, including the Museo Regional de la Araucanía regarding Mapuche Indians. Pablo Neruda National Railway Museum is dedicated to the old steam locomotives and named after a renowned Chilean poet.
