Tampere (Swedish: Tampere), with its 211,544 inhabitants (2009), Finland’s second largest city.It is located in the southwestern part of the country – and the administrative center of the landscape Pirkanmaa (Swedish: Birka Country). Tampere was founded by the Swedish king Gustav III in 1779. The city’s Swedish name (Tampere) is the location of a waterfall between Lake Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi.
