Perpignan is located in the South of France – approx. 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea and 30 km from the border with Spain .The city belongs to the region Languedoc-Roussillon, and the main town in the department of Pyrenees-Orientales. Perpignan has 118,200 inhabitants (2007), and one takes the suburbs the population is increasing at nearly 300,000.

The city was founded in the early 900’s, and in 1200 – and 1300’s belonged Perpignon Kingdom of Mallorca .One of the city’s main tourist attractions are related to this. Palais des Rois de Mallorca is a palace and a fortress with great views of the city from 1276. The place is one of the most important monuments of Perpignan, and was once the residence of the kings of Mallorca.

Another attraction in the city: Cathedral St. Jean Baptist – which began in 1324, and was completed in 1509, Castillet from the 1300s, a natural history museum and an aviation museum.

Nearest international airport is Aéroport Perpignan – Rivesaltes, which is 6 miles northwest of downtown.
