Aachen is located in the western part of Germany, in North Rhine-Westphalia in-just 5 km from the border with Belgium and the Netherlands .The city has 260,000 inhabitants (2008), and is an important railway junction. Aachen is famous for its long history and its architectural and cultural heritage.

The city’s main attraction is the Aachen Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in Germany – with widely from year 786 Inside the building is a beautiful “Glass Chapel” – which is a major tourist attraction, and both the cathedral and glass chapel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city hall of Aachen from the 1500s are worth a visit – and Grashaus, located at the Fish Market from 1267. Other attractions in the city: Ludwig Forum for International Art – art gallery with an exhibition of contemporary art that also has an outdoor sculpture park, Büchel Palace from 1338, the European Square (just east of the center) with its fountain is illuminated at night, and City Museum Frankenberg Castle from the 1200s on the outskirts of town.
