Mannheim is located in southwestern Germany – by the river Neckars expiration of the Rhine – and is the second largest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg (after Stuttgart ). It has 310,000 inhabitants (2008).

Mannheim is one of the nation’s largest inland ports, and is also an important railway junction.

In addition, the city has a wide range of cultural monuments, museums and art galleries.

A landmark in the town’s water tower from 1886, which is 60 meters high.

Mannheim is known for its beautiful Baroque buildings from the 1700s – including “ResindezSchloss” from 1720. This is Germany’s largest castle (the facade is of 500 meters long). In addition, this is one of the largest baroque construction in Europe. The city’s university is located in the building.

The old city hall from 1701 in the baroque style is also worth a visit. City Hall has shared tower with the church “Untere Pfarrkirche St. Sebastian”.

Another tourist attraction in town is the Reiss-Museum – an international museum complex in several genres (photography, culture and archeology, etc.). The exhibition includes exquisite porcelain and a copy of Carl Benz’s first automobile from 1886. A little east of downtown is the 212 meter high TV tower, which is open to the public. Here visitors can get up to an observation platform and have panoramic views over the city. In addition, a revolving restaurant and bar at the top of the tower.

Airport Mannheim, Mannheim City Airport is located 3.7 km east of downtown, the city’s regional airport.

Nearest international airport is Karlsruhe Airport, located 104 km south of Mannheim.
