The coastal town of Vadsø (about 5000 inhabitants in 2010) located in the eastern part of Finnmark county, on the north side of Varanger Fjord. Vadsø is both a commercial and administrative center of the county of Finnmark (Norway’s northernmost and largest in area).

Vadsø have daily arrivals of Coastal Voyage ( Bergen – Kirkenes ).

Already in the 1500s was Vadsø a large fishing village, but did not receive city status until 1833.

Tourist Attractions in Vadsø is first and foremost, the Arctic environment with the midnight sun in summer, outdoor recreation and hunting and fishing. In winter you can experience the natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights in Vadsø, and participate in snowmobile safari or dog sledding.

Vadsø Museum / Ruija Who Museum is well worth a visit. The museum is located in Esbensgården in Outer Kvenby bit outside the center – in a Norwegian merchant 1850 –   and document and conveys the multicultural history of Norway’s north-eastern border area.You get an insight into Norwegian, Finnish, Sámi and Russian culture. Adjacent to the museum are several preserved buildings – including Tuomainegården.

Vadsøya Culture Park also belongs to the museum – as well as the exhibition “Airships and boats”, which is located on the Hurtigruten.

Vadsø hosts several annual cultural events – including the Crab Festival Polar Specatcle, and Varanger Festival – a blues and jazz festival in August.

The city’s regional airport – Vadsø Airport – 4 km east of downtown.
