Badalona belongs to the province of Barcelona in the northeast of Spain and is a port city bordering the Mediterranean Sea.The city lies on the banks of the River Besòs and it is only 10 km to the provincial capital of Barcelona in the south. With a population of over 220 000 (2009), Badalona is the third largest city in the province. Badalona was built on Roman ruins in the 10th century and is one of the oldest cities in the region of Catalonia.
