Lugano is situated in southern Switzerland, near the border with Italy – the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino.The city – which has 53,000 inhabitants – is also located south of the Alps, the lake Lago di Lugano.
Lugano is a very popular resort town, which is not least due to the proximity to the beautiful Lago di Lugano – and the warm, sunny summers here. The average temperature in the water in the lake is then between 19 and 24 degrees C, and the many beautiful beaches – where the hotels and restaurants are close – seems alluring to many tourists. So do the many opportunities for boating on the lake.
Of architectural sights in the city itself must be especially San Lorenzo Cathedral from 1400’s mentioned. And one of Lugano’s many museums are the Museo delle Culture in a unique position. It was opened in 1998 in a beautiful former mansion house which is idyllically situated right on the seashore.
Lugano Airport is a small airport on the outskirts of the city, which has an international scheduled air traffic – including to certain destinations in Italy, France, Germany and England.
