Uster is located in the Swiss canton of Zurich and has approx.31,000 inhabitants (2008). The city is located near the lake Greifensee – 23 km east of (the city) Zürich .
Uster Castle is the city’s most famous landmark – where parts of the building dates from the 1200s.The castle is a major tourist attraction, situated on a hill with great views of Greifensee and its environs.
The castle was completely destroyed by fire in 1492 but was rebuilt in the period 1526 to 1529.Inside the castle is also a nice restaurant.
Another attraction in Ulster is the jazz museum “Swiss JazzOrama”. The museum tells about jazz music in Switzerland – an exhibition of photographs and artifacts.There is also a media room and a museum shop.
Ulster received in 2001 Wakka award from the “Swiss Heritage Society” (SHS) – for its development and preservation of the city’s architectural heritage.
