Thun is located in the Swiss canton of Bern, and has 42,700 inhabitants (2009). The town is beautifully situated where the River Aare flows out of Lake Thun – with views to the snow-capped Bernese Alps. Thun is located 30 km south of the capital Bern.
The city’s main industry is tourism – and Thun is considered the gateway to the Highlands Bernese Oberland, with its beautiful and varied landscape.
