Curitiba is the largest city and capital of the state of Paraná, with over 1.8 million inhabitants (2009). It is also the economic center in both the state and the southern part of Brazil .Curitiba is located southeast of the country and there are about 100 km to the coast bordering the Atlantic Ocean. The city was founded in 1654 and has grown a lot over the years, mainly because of immigration.
