Herning – with a population of 45,470 (2009) – is located in Region Midtjylland. The geographic location makes the city an important traffic hub, with several of Jutland main roads meet.
Herning’s biggest attraction is Herningsholm mansion from 1579. This is also Blichermuseet, which documents the famous poet Steen Steensen Blichers (1782-1848) life and work. There are also several museums in town: Herning Museum, Herning Art Museum and the Danish museum of photography.Of particular interest to children, the amusement center Baboon City and the Zoo Jutland Park Zoo (about 12 miles west of downtown) is mentioned.
Herning Airport is located 5 km northeast of the city, but has no fixed route traffic. There is, however, two busy airports within reasonable distance: Karup Airport (25 km from Herning towards Viborg), which is partly regular connection with Copenhagen – and 54 km from Herning is Denmark’s second largest airport in: Billund Airport.
