The coastal city of Lulea is located in the northeastern part of Sweden at the Gulf of Bothnia, and has about 74,000 inhabitants (2009).The city is the administrative center for Luleå and Norrbotten County.
Luleå was founded in 1621 and is known for its beautiful reefs farm. The city also has an important port, and is a trading center for the region.
Some of the most visited sights in Luleå are: Norrbotten Museum – with exhibits in the areas of art, cultural history and modernity, culture house – with art hall and the concert stage, Lulea Domkyrka from 1887 in the Gothic Revival style and Tech House – a popular science center for the entire family with interactive Exhibitions and Planetarium.
10 km north of the city is the tourist attraction Gammelstad Kirkeby on a small island in the river Lule. The place is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, and houses a stone church from the 1300s surrounded by 400 old wooden houses and a large collection of church parlors and church yards.
