Uddevalla is located in the southwestern part of Sweden – the landscape of Bohuslän.The city has just over 30,000 inhabitants and is the administrative center of Västra Götaland. Uddevalla has had city status since 1498, and is connected with the sea through the long, narrow fjord.
Uddevalla has in modern times primarily been known for its shipbuilding industry (Uddevallavarvet).
One of the sights of the city is Tures castle, built on a high mountain in the southwestern part of downtown in the years 1899-1912 – as a private summer residence. It was built in medieval style. In 1950 the castle was ravaged by fire, but the ruins of it is still a popular place – not least because of the wonderful views.
Otherwise, the beautiful waterfront include – in addition to the Uddevalla has several interesting museums. Among these we find Bohuslän Museum & Konsthall, Will Bank Museum and the Swedish Sjömanshusmuseum.
Nearest major airport is at Landvetter Gothenburg – approx. 89 km south of Uddevalla.
