Caceres is the capital of the province of Caceres belonging Estremadura region. The city is centrally located in the western part of Spain, and its population is around 90,000 (2008).There are about 100 km to the border with Portugal in the west and about 300 km to the capital Madrid in the northeast.Caceres was founded under the name Castra Caecilia by the Romans in 74 BC Kr. and was conquered by the Moors in 700-number.

The historic town has a medieval feel and is surrounded by an old city wall dating from both the Roman period and the period under the Moors.
