Bergerac is a town in the south of France, 85 kilometers east of Bordeaux .The city is located in the department of Dordogne and has approx. 28,000 inhabitants.
There are several historic sites near the city. Just outside Bergerac is the castle Chateau de Tiregand the middle of a vineyard. The house originates from the 1800s and has a nice park area.
Bergerac was one of the Huguenots major cities, and returned after the wars of 1500 – and 1600’s. The city has been trading in wine, chestnuts, truffles and tobacco. Bergerac is a wine museum, Maison du Vin, which was created in the 1600s. Here visitors can learn more about the 13 regional wines. Costia Museum houses the works of sculptor Constantin Costia Papachristpoulos. There is also a tobacco museum in Bergerac. It has four main themes: the discovery of tobacco, tobacco social history, tobacco and art, and the tobacco art. It should also have a large collection of tobacco.
