Lanciano is widely known for the place where the alleged first Eucharistic miracle happened. According to legend, the bread and wine have been transformed into Jesus’ flesh and blood during communion in the church of San Fransesco in the 8th century. The church is now replaced by one that was built in 1258, it is possible to see remnants of the miracle that has been spared in approx. 1300 years. Otherwise, the city offers several historic churches and parts of a wall and a city gate from 1000-century.
