Las Vegas, also simply known as Vegas, it’s located in the United States of America. In 2019, the population was over 2,000,000. It’s located in the south of Nevada. It’s also close to the borders of Arizona and California. It’s most famous for its casinos, gambling and nightlife. In fact, in 2018, there were over 40 million tourists. There are lots of nearby towns and cities to visit while you’re travelling to Las Vegas. For example, Paradise is also in Nevada, located adjacent to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is near to Henderson, another city in Nevada. It is almost the largest city in Nevada, and located about 16 miles (or 26 km) south-east away from Nevada. In Henderson, there was a population of roughly 300,000 back in 2017. There are lots of nature reserves and county parks in Henderson so we have listed two popular ones below. There is also the Clark County Museum located on the outskirts of the city. Visit it to discover the history of the south of Nevada. There is even a recreated ghost town you can try!

  • Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area
  • Clark County Wetlands Park

North Las Vegas, another place to visit, had a population of 240,000 in 2017. It is the 4th biggest city in Nevada and is the best place to go for a vacation that includes gambling and casinos. Some of the popular luxury hotels include Treasure Island, The Venetian and Circus and Circus. You can also head to Mt. Charleston, which is Nevada’s fifth tallest peaking mountain. Or, travel 30 minutes to the Spring Mountains, where you can access Lee Canyon. Alternatively, find Bristlecone Pine Tree, which is the oldest living thing on our planet.

Another popular location near Las Vegas is Reno. It is found in the north-west of Nevada, and it’s also known as the biggest little city in our world. 22 miles, or 35 km, you can find Lake Tahoe. Reno had a population of over 240,000 in 2017. The destination can be located near Sparks and Sun Valley, in Nevada. Reno was initially known as a small town, called Lakes Crossing. Over time, it has become an attractive destination to tourists combined with casinos, restaurants as well as a whitewater kayak facility.

Explore with your rental car

In Las Vegas, you can drive to plenty of luxury restaurants, and exciting attractions to visit on your holiday. Approximately 10 miles, or 16 km, from the airport, you can find Blackout Dining in the Dark. This unique restaurant gives you the experience of dining completely in blackness. It would take between 10 and 15 minutes to drive there for a special experience. Alternatively, another restaurant would be Carson Kitchen, which would take roughly 15 minutes to drive. It’s 7 miles, or 11 km, from the airport, and offers an open air balcony where live music is played.

If you consider yourself an adrenaline lover, travel to Vegas Indoor Skydiving. It is easy to drive to, only 5 miles, or 8 km, from the Las Vegas airport. You can buy packages to enjoy an adventure experience of skydiving in your holiday. One of the most popular tourist attractions at this location is the Las Vegas Strip, 3 miles (or 4 km) away from the airport. It is a huge 4 mile, or 6 km, stretch of entertainment. There, you’ll find restaurants and attractions to keep you entertained, wined and dined night and day.

Dig This can be found 13 miles, or 20 km, away from the airport in Las Vegas. It is essentially an amusement park for adults. It is a big sand box for tourists to have fun driving huge machinery, like bulldozers. It’s a total of five acres, where guests can get the right training, enjoy using the machines, and even take part in skill tests if they wish to as well.

Finally, The Neon Museum can be found 12 miles, or 19 km, away from Las Vegas airport. If you choose to visit it, it’s only a 20 minute drive. It was founded in 1996 and takes you through the history of Las Vegas. But, the difference is that it does it all in neon. You can find out more about your visit before you go, online. There are often cultural and arts events being held at the museum, so check before you travel. That way, you can book what you would like to see and experience in advance.

Airports

There are three common airports in Las Vegas. They include McCarran International Airport, North Las Vegas Airport, and Las Vegas airport. If you’re travelling there, you’ll find that there are plenty of car rental options at all of the airports. You’ll find that McCarran airport has the most variety of options for car hire. At McCarran airport, there are a total of 11 car hire companies, including Hertz, Avis, Dollar and others.

At North Las Vegas Airport, you can go to similar companies, as well as Enterprise and Thrifty. Once you’ve arranged your car hire, there are plenty of local destinations you can travel to from the airport. 2 miles, or 3 km, from McCarran International is the Las Vegas Strip, as we mentioned earlier. In fact, there are quite a few popular tourist attractions within 3 miles distance of McCarran International.

For example, you can visit Las Vegas’ Eiffel Tower for a taste of Paris. You could also go and see the Fountains at Bellagio. These are a real highlight. They are very powerful fountains, that are lit up by pretty lights and are seen to be very iconic and impressive to see. It seems to be a special act to throw a penny into the fountain. You do this as you make a wish. Over the years, the pennies have remained there and has become a unique tradition.

Traffic

If you are driving in your rental car around Las Vegas, the speed limit on the highways is 70 mph, or 75 mph when you’re outside cities. In the built-up areas, it’s usually 25 or 35 mph as a limit. Car parking is generally quite good in the destination, with either free options or very inexpensive fees. There tends to be parking facilities at most of the entertainment places.

If you’re visiting the Las Vegas Strip, it’s best to find parking at a close by lot or garage. This is because car parking on the street can be difficult. This is closely monitored by meters that are checked by authorities. It’s best to watch out for re-directed routes and activity on the road because there can often be highway cones signalling a detour on some roads. Other than this, the road and driving quality tends to be good.

Be mindful that tourists can often misjudge how heavy traffic can become in Las Vegas, especially near the Strip. Speeding does not go unpenalised by local police. It might also be a good idea to avoid the busier routes by taking a parallel road near to the Las Vegas Boulevard. Sinatra Drive and Paradise Road are often good choices to get to the attractions you want to see, but avoid getting slowed down in the masses of other vehicles. Even during rush hours, it is best to consider the alternative quieter roads.
