Hoogeveen is a city northwest of Amsterdam in the north east of the Netherlands .Hoogeveen has 55,000 inhabitants (2007). More channels through the town.

The town dates back to December 20, 1625, when Roelof van Echte bought a large turf area from local farmers to harvest peat. In 1819 started the first industry: turf and beehives. In 1883 visited the world famous painter Vincent Van Gogh city. The painting Huts in Zwartschaap was painted between Hoogeveen and Pessets this year. In 1960 the town was one of the fastest growing cities in the Netherlands. Thus, several channels filled up.

Hoogeveen has a small airport located 3 miles outside the city, while Groningen is located 45 kilometers from Hoogeveen.
